The Legendary Angkor

Angkor, The marvelous “capital city” that stand witness to the most awesome architecture ever accomplished in the Khmer (Cambodian) History.

Angkor is THE “must-see” in Cambodia, and i really mean it ….. it is such a “must see” that it is on the Cambodian FLAG!!

Siem Reap is the closest city to Angkor, so basically, your visit to Angkor will be when you are staying in Siem Reap.

………………………………….

1) The map

Angkor is a MASSIVE place (city), where there is a huge number of temples and ruins scattered across the whole place.

This map could give you a perspective of the whole place.

And for a full guide of the whole place with the name of the temples and a brief history about each, you can go HERE!!

2) Tickets

There is 3 types of tickets to enter Angkor:

A) 1-day pass = 20$

B) 3-days pass = 40$ (can use the 3 days within 1 week)

C) 1-week pass = 60$

In the ticket booth outside Angkor, your picture will be taken and you will be issued a personal ticket that you will need to have on your person at all times.

If you were caught inside without a ticket, you’ll get in a lot of trouble and i think you’ll pay a 100$ fine or something.

3) How to get there?

Since the renting of motorbikes has been BANNED in Siem Reap for foreigners (unless you have a Cambodian license), the usual ways to get to Angkor is either by Tuk-Tuk or Bicycles.

The Tuk-Tuk will charge you from 15-20$ for 1 whole day in Angkor.

4) Itinerary

Having an itinerary is extremely important when you are planning to visit Angkor, since the place really is HUGE and the major temples are quite scattered and far from each others, you will have to pinpoint the locations you would like to visit, you will also have to allocate the time you intend to spend in each one.

You will find a lot of itineraries in different sources that all point to pretty much the same temples and areas, so i won’t write down a specific itinerary in here, however i will be writing down in my next post in FULL DETAIL the itinerary that we followed.

It’s really recommended to discuss your itinerary with your Tuk-Tuk driver, make sure that you are both clear on the whole itinerary to avoid any trouble later, SPECIALLY if you have only a 1 day pass …… MAKE IT COUNT!!

5) Our plan

Well our plan was quite different from the norm -as usual- :D, what we decided to do is to get a 3-days pass to Angkor, grab a map, rent a bike, and just discover the place completely on our own.

I have to say that it was indeed a great decision and it was an AWESOME experience, in my next post i’ll tell you all about it, where did we go ….. what did we do …. and what did we see ….. The whole package.

So stay tuned .. and till then ……

BASEL ….. OUT
